“I Am a Spark Ignited by Abai”

On March 1, the literary and educational event “I Am a Spark Ignited by Abai” was held at the house museum of Kamen Orazalin, dedicated to the birthday of the folk akyn Shakir Abenuly.

The event’s honored guest was the akyn’s descendant, esteemed educator Sana Shakirkizy. Other participants included Honored Cultural Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Honorary Citizen of the Abai District S. Nurpeisov, the head of the museum house of Sh. Abenuly, Zh. Alimbekova, museum staff member L. Tilegenova, and 6th-grade students from the Karlyk Gymnasium, led by M. Kusmanova.

Opening the evening with a welcoming speech, museum director E. Orazaly emphasized that promoting the literary heritage of Shakir Abenuly—who lived for nearly a century and witnessed three historical eras—and passing his works on to future generations is the responsibility of the present generation.

Sana Shakirkizy noted that the event coincided with the akyn’s birthday, Gratitude Day (March 1), and the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, which she considered a good omen. She shared stories about her father’s life and creative journey and performed the song Damezhan from his works for the guests.

The evening’s guests shared interesting stories about Shakir Abenuly. The writer’s granddaughter, A. Orazalina, enriched the atmosphere with her musical performance, playing a romance by A. Zhubanov on the violin.

Students who had memorized Shakir Abenuly’s poems showcased their recitation skills. At the end of the event, E. Orazaly presented a Letter of Appreciation on behalf of the museum, honored the guests, and took commemorative photographs.
