Literary Evening and Opening of the Exhibition “I Am a Witness of a Century”
Today, a literary evening and the grand opening of the exhibition titled “I Am a Witness of a Century” were held in honor of the 125th anniversary of the poet, composer, and kuishi Shakir Abenuly.
The event was opened with a welcoming speech by the Director of the Abai Museum, U. Sagadiyev, who expressed special respect to the poet’s descendant, Sana Shakirkyzy. Doctor of Philology and Professor of Shakarim University A. Kadyrov delivered a presentation titled “The Poetic Artistry of Sh. Abenuly.” The President of the International Abai Foundation O. Karibzhanov, Chairman of the Abai Regional Council of Veterans M. Alin, and S. Shakirkyzy shared their memories and reflections about the poet.
Researcher of Shakir’s songs, Distinguished Worker of Culture and traditional singer K. Kabyshev, together with his student N. Karimkhan, performed the poet’s songs, while students of the music college presented traditional kuis.
The literary evening continued with the exhibition dedicated to the life and creative legacy of Sh. Abenuly. The exhibition featured the poet’s personal belongings from the museum collection — his dombra, belt, cane, bag, chapan, skullcap, outerwear, and other items — as well as editions of his poems, songs, epics, and stories published in different years, scholarly and educational books, and photographs.
